Cars, cocaine, meth and more than $20,000 of cash has been seized following an eight-month investigation into drug supply in Sydney’s southwest.
Zacaria Alameddine, 24, appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Friday after police searched three homes simultaneously at Punchbowl, Burwood and Bankstown, leading to his and Ahmad El Kobaitry’s arrests.
He was charged with supply indictable and commercial quantities prohibited, possess prohibited drug, possess or attempt to prescribed restricted substance, and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime more than $5000. El Kobiatry has been hit with two drug possession charges.
Alameddine allegedly supplied 14.8g of cocaine and possessed 26 tablets of mesterolone, a type of steroid, at Homebush on July 20, court documents tendered in his proceedings state.
The documents also reveal between 7am and 9am on Thursday at Burwood, he allegedly did deal with the proceeds of crime of $18,200.
It comes as detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command established Strike Force Polar in February to investigate the supply and distribution of methylamphetamine and cocaine in the Bankstown area.
During the searches, police seized more than $20,000 cash, electronic devices, methamphetamine, cocaine, and several cars. All items are being forensically examined. No charges have been laid in relation to these items.
In court on Friday, Alameddine’s barrister Evan James who was instructed by Mostafa Daoudie indicated there had been multiple search warrants, one in April, one in July and another on Thursday.
He said one of the drug possession charges was a back-up to the deemed cocaine supply charge and told the court the money found by police belonged to his Alameddine’s partner.
Mr James said a scale was found and that Alameddine told police that it was used for gym purposes.
While acknowledging there was a breach of bail when his client was 19, he said his record was not a concern for the court.
However, the police prosecutor said the case was strong, noting Alameddine was already on parole for “similar offences” and he would likely receive a full-time jail sentence.
She told the court there were concerns about the 24-year-old failing to appear and committing further offences.
Magistrate XXX said during the police searches, Alameddine was found with cannabis, testosterone pills and 14.8g of cocaine.
Mr XXXX told the court while Alameddine said he used the scale for gym purposes, he accepted there was evidence to suggest white residue, believed to be cocaine, was found.
He said if the cash – found “yesterday” was located at the same time as the cocaine, the prosecution case would have been stronger.
He ultimately granted bail given Alameddine had been supervised while on parole, hadn’t left the jurisdiction and had strong family ties.
The 24-year-old must report to Bankstown police station twice a week and a $100,000 surety was put forward.
Alameddine will return to Burwood Local Court on November 8, and El Kobiatry is listed for the following day at Bankstown.
