Police have arrested a third person in connection with the murder of solicitor Ho Ledinh at a Bankstown cafe in January 2018.
The 34-year-old man was arrested at a home in Leppington about 7am on Thursday and has also been charged with been charged with weapons offences. He was refused bail and is expected to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.
Detective Superintendent Scott Cook of the Homicide squad of NSW, told the Express this was “not a complex or well thought out execution” and that the man is unlikely to apply for bail. Supt Cook also thanked the community for looking after their fellow citizens.
“Earlier today detectives from the homicide squad together with organised crime squad detectives in Strike force raptor executed a firearms prohibition order at an address in Leppington,” Supt Cook said at the Parramatta Police Station.
A 38-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, who were charged by Strike Force Eugene investigators in February and March 2018, remain before the courts.
Mr Ledinh, 65, was shot while sitting at Bankstown’s Happy Cup cafe about 3.35pm on January 23, 2018.
Despite the efforts of police, NSW Ambulance Paramedics and members of the community, Mr Ledinh died at the scene.
“What we do knows this was not a complex or well thought out execution,” Supt Cook said.
“Who puts on a rain coat in the middle of the day and shoots someone in front of at least a thousand people?
“It wasn’t smart and they will be caught.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to that the detectives involved in this investigation.
“They’ve done an exceptional job over the last month to bring three people before the courts to face justice.
“I particularly want to thank the community of Bankstown.
“They stepped up and provided the police with the information which has been crucial to this outcome.
And so I would like to congratulate that community for looking after their fellow citizen.
“I encourage communtiies to do the same in the future.
“The family are sad and this reminds them of what occurred, but they are also grateful.
“They’re grateful for the community and they’re grateful for the police and they’re grateful these people are being brought to justice.
“Homicide is not acceptable in NSW. No matter what your dispute, homicide is not acceptable.
“And if you engage in this kind of behaviour, by taking a life of another person, we will investigate and we will bring you before the courts, every time.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, and Bankstown Police Area Command, established Strike Force Eugene to investigate the shooting.
