Teen suffers serious head injuries after being allegedly hit by van in south west Sydney

The driver of the van which allegedly struck and seriously injured a pedestrian in south west Sydney has been charged with dangerous driving.

A teenage pedestrian is being treated for critical head injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the south west Sydney suburb of Bass Hill.

The 61-year-old female drive has been arrested and charged with several offences, including dangerous driving and failing to stop at a red light.

The 18-year-old male was crossing the intersection of Hume Hwy and Miller Rd around 4.35pm on Tuesday, when he was allegedly struck by a van, driven by a 61-year-old woman.

A spokesman for Ambulance NSW said when their four crews and a specialist medical team arrived around 4.40pm, the man was unconscious.

“He had pretty serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to Liverpool Hospital,” he said.

The boy remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Bankstown Police arrested the driver and charged her with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and failing to stop at red light.

The driver was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, June 19.

An examination at the scene was conducted by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit with the assistance of the Forensic Imaging Section.

Bankstown Police Area Command and South-West Metropolitan Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers were also at the scene.
