Sydney weather: Liverpool and Milperra hardest hit in storm

The heavy rain falling across southwest Sydney for three days has forced residents to evacuate from areas along the Georges River.

Liverpool has been lashed by wild weather and heavy rainfall, with residents living near the Georges River ordered to evacuate on Sunday night.

The SES reported major flooding in Liverpool and Milperra following the weekend downpour.

It warned on Monday morning the Georges River at Liverpool Bridge could reach 5.3m with further rises possible.

On Sunday evening residents in parts of Holsworthy, Moorebank, Chipping Norton and Pleasure Point were ordered to evacuate due to dangerous floodwaters.

Some schools have also closed, with Holsworthy High School not operating on Monday due to a power outage.

William Carey Christian School in Prestons posted on Facebook students were to remain away from school due to road closures in the area.

SES volunteers and firefighters remain active responding to trees falling and blocking roads, damage to homes and floodwaters.

There are currently delays on all train lines, with some operating at limited capacity:

– T1 North Shore and Western Line – reduced frequency due to a landslip at Artarmon

– T7 Olympic Park Line – a limited bus service is operating between Lidcombe and Olympic Park

– Sydney Metro – buses are replacing metro services between Chatswood and Macquarie Park; citybound passengers should change at Epping for a T9 Northern Line train

– Blue Mountains, south coast and Central Coast & Newcastle Lines – buses are operating a limited replacement service in some locations due to signal equipment and track damage

– Southern Highlands Line – a limited bus service is operating between Goulburn and Campbelltown due to infrastructure damage.

Residents are reminded that anyone needing assistance should contact the SES on 132 500.
