Strike Force Shiel: Eight charged after police raid properties at Zetland, Burwood, Wiley Park, Concord West, Belmore, Campsie, Beverly Hills

Illegal weapons, a heroin and cannabis stash, and $360,000 in cash were uncovered as detectives raided multiple properties across Sydney and arrested eight people. See inside the raids.

Illegal weapons, a drug stash with 12.5kg of heroin and 10kg of cannabis, along with $360,000 in cash, were uncovered as strike force detectives raided multiple properties and arrested eight people.

Strike Force Shiel was established in May 2023 to investigate the alleged large-scale drug supply by a criminal syndicate operating across the Sydney metropolitan area.

About 3pm on Wednesday, strike force detectives – with assistance from Operational Support Group ODIN – searched a property at North Bondi.

Han Chieh Huang was arrested on November 29 in Neutral Bay after being taken to Chatswood police station and charged with drug supply, participate in criminal group, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

The 31-year-old Parramatta man did not appear at Manly Local Court where his matter was adjourned to Downing Centre on February 6.

In court documents, police allege Huang supplied cannabis, participated in a criminal group and dealt with $5790, being the proceeds of crime.

Following this, the detectives – with assistance from multiple State Crime Command squads, the Public Order and Riot Squad, South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group, Dog Squad and Australian Border Force – then raided several properties at Zetland, Burwood, Wiley Park, Concord West, Belmore, Campsie and Beverly Hills.

During the search warrants, officers located gold bullion, prohibited weapons, prohibited drugs including 12.5kg of heroin, 8kg of methylamphetamine, 10kg of cannabis, and about $360,000 in cash.

All items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.

Three men – Yu Kai Lin, 29, Shao Chih Li, 33, and Shao Sheng Xu, 46 – were arrested and taken to Campsie and Burwood police stations where Lin was charged with supplying a prohibited drug, and knowingly directing a criminal group to assist crime.

Officers also charged Li with possessing prohibited drug, supplying prohibited drug and participating in criminal group.

Lin and Li did not did not apply for bail at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday and will remain in custody. The matters were adjourned to December 13 and their lawyer Jeffery Chan said his clients would apply for bail on the next occasion.

Xu was charged with two counts of supplying prohibited drugs, two counts dealing with property proceeds of crime, two counts of possessing prohibited drugs and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

His lawyer, Mr Chan, requested for his client’s matter to be adjourned to Waverley Court on January 16 but said no bail application would be made.

Magistrate Glenn Walsh granted the adjournments and requested Mandarin interpreters for all matters.

At the Campsie search warrant, officers arrested Ngoc Nguyen, 63, and took him to Burwood police station.

The Wiley Park man was charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug, and dealing with property proceeds of crime of more than $100,000.

Nguyen did not apply for bail at Burwood Local Court on Thursday and will remain in custody on remand.

Officers also charged Li Chen Lee, 32, of Beverly Hills with supplying a prohibited drug greater than a large commercial quantity, knowingly/recklessly directing a criminal group and dealing with property proceeds of crime lower than $100,000.

He did not apply for bail and will remain in custody on remand.

Both Lee and Nguyen will return to court on February 14.

Strike force detectives also arrested a 38-year-old man at Rouse Hill and charged him with five offences including dealing with property proceeds of crime, supplying cannabis and participating in criminal group.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on December 20.

Officers then arrested a 31-year-old man at Neutral Bay who was taken to Chatswood police station and charged with supplying cannabis, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, and participating in criminal group.

He was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court on Thursday.
