BOYS tempted to sledge Jade Errington on the cricket field might want to think twice.

It’s water off a duck’s back to her. It serves only to steel her resolve — and she responds with her bat rather than her mouth.

“They say things like, ‘She’s a girl, go easy on her’. Then I hit the ball and show them, and it’s ‘Oh, whoops’. It’s pretty funny,” said the 12-year-old Bankstown star.

“They can say what they want. I don’t care.”

Jade is used to playing against boys, and girls, who are much older, ever since she and her older brother started in the under 8s.

“She wanted to play cricket, and we couldn’t be in two places at once, so we put them in the same team,” said her mum Virginia.

Jade is the only girl playing against boys in under 15s cricket for Moorebank on Saturday mornings before she turns out for Bankstown Sports female under 17s in the afternoon.

Despite her youth she won the team’s player of the year and bowling awards.

She represented the NSW under 17 team in the Australian indoor championships in Dubbo this year, taking nine wickets in seven matches as the team reached the semis.

Jade has been selected in the elite Cricket NSW Academy female metro squad, which begins training at the SCG next month.

The wicketkeeping all-rounder scored her maiden half century for Bankstown District Cricket Association’s under 13 rep team.

Jade has been nominated for the Junior Sports Star award, sponsored by Rebel. The Team Spirit is sponsored by Fox Sports Pulse and Young Sporting Spirit category is sponsored by Simonds Homes.
