Riverwood man Jamie Hooper charged with 11 offences after alleged aggravated home entry

A man accused of blackening his face to disguise himself and carrying out a terrifying home invasion in southwest Sydney has appeared in court.

A man, who allegedly broke into a house in south west Sydney armed with an unlicensed firearm, has been arrested at a service station.

Bankstown Police arrested Jamie Hooper, 30, at the Caltex service station on Duncan St, Punchbowl, about 11.30am on Wednesday and charged him with 11 offences.

Mr Hooper, who allegedly blackened his face to disguise himself when he threatened the two occupants of the home, faces charges of acquiring a firearm despite a prohibition order, dealing with the proceeds of crime ($22,350) and not having a driver with him despite his learner licence.

Bankstown Police will allege Hooper and Thi Phuong Anh Nguyen, 39, forced their way into a home in Arthur Street, Bankstown, around 8.45pm on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

Police said the two allegedly threatened the occupants, a 31-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man. No one was injured.

Hooper allegedly fled but Bankstown police arrested Ms Nguyen at the scene.

She was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter with intent.

Ms Nguyen was refused bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Monday, November 19. She was formally granted bail to next appear before the same court on Wednesday, February 26.

After arresting Mr Hooper, detectives, along with the Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad, executed a search warrant at his home in Riverwood.

During a search of the property, officers allegedly located a .22 calibre modified pistol, a loaded rifle, 24 rounds of .243 calibre ammunition, 109 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, a knife, speed cuffs, and $22,350 in cash.

These items will undergo forensic examination.

Mr Hooper’s offences include aggravated enter dwelling with intent, face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, acquire prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order and two counts of acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order.

He was also charged with possessing unauthorised pistol, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, not keeping firearm safely prohibited firearm, dealing with the proceeds of crime, fire found at premises – subject to prohibition order, and a learner driver not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester.

Mr Hooper, who appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday, was bail refused to appear via video link at the same court on March 26.
