Canterbury Bankstown: NSW Food Authority names and shames offenders
More than 80 restaurants across Canterbury Bankstown have been fined for food safety breaches with one eatery amassing fines of more than $9000.

Lakemba’s Banoful Restaurant and Sweets and Dapur Ibu Aiya, along with Wiley Park’s Blazin Grillz have been fined nine times each for falling foul of the NSW Food Authority and council inspectors.
These three restaurants received the most fines among the more than 80 outlets making the authority’s latest name and shame list in the Canterbury Bankstown local government area.
In all 159 fines were imposed on these outlets, including restaurants and food stores.
Even McDonald’s at 37, Rickard Rd, Bankstown, did not escape the close scrutiny of Canterbury Bankstown Council inspectors who fined them $880 for failing to keep the place clean.
Banoful Restaurant and Sweets in Lakemba copped more than $9000 in penalties after fines ranging from $880 to $1540 were slapped on them for various offences.
The owners of the Bangladeshi restaurant were fined $1540 for failure to comply with a prohibition order despite previous warnings. Other fines included $880 for not taking all necessary steps to prevent food being contaminated.
Dapur Ibu Alya, also in Lakemba and which serves Indonesian cuisine, were issued penalties ranging from $660 to $800 for breaching the NSW Food Authority rules. They were fined for failure to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control, possible contamination, unclean surfaces and no food safety supervisors.
At Blazin Grillz (64C, King Georges Rd, Wiley Park; 188 Waldron Rd, Chester Hill) fines included a likelihood of contamination, cleanliness ($880) and not having a food safety supervisor ($330).
“The City of Canterbury Bankstown proactively seeks to maintain the safety of the community,” a council spokesman said.
“We do this by regularly checking and inspecting food premises to ensure they abide by the Food Standards Code.
“A business is issued with separate fines for each offence which breaches the code.”
Chef’s Dynasty Seafood Restaurant (Little Saigon Plaza, Bankstown) were given six separate fines. These included $880 for failing “to take all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests” and $880 for failing to “when processing food, take all necessary steps to prevent the likelihood of food being contaminated”. They had been warned previously, the Food Authority said.
OTHER OFFENDERS FINED MULTIPLE TIMES INCLUDE:
■ PENANG HAWKER (275 Beamish St, Campsie) — six offences, including contamination fears, despite earlier warnings and did not display potentially hazardous food under temperature control and cleanliness issues.
■ U KNOW THAI KITCHEN TAKEWAY (345 Homer St, Earlwood) — six offences, including failure to maintain cleanliness despite warnings,
■ PIZZALAND — 60, Haldon St, Lakemba — five offences, including not having a food safety supervisor, despite being warned previously.
■ YUMMY KING BBQ KITCHEN (164 Beamish St, Campsie; 187, Hume Hwy, Greenacre) — four offences, including failure to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control
■ GRAMEEN CHOTPOTI (1/52, Railway Pde, Lakemba) — six offences including failure to comply with prohibition order and failure to take all practicable means to get rid of pests.
■ PADSTOW KITCHEN TAKEAWAY (164, Alma Rd, Padstow) — three offences, including cleanliness and contamination fears.
■ SINDOOR INDIAN (shop FC005, North Terrace, Bankstown) — three offences, including not displaying potentially hazardous food under temperature control; was warned
■ YAGOONA FRUIT MARKET (416 Hume Hwy, Yagoona) – three offences, including not taking all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests, despite previous warning.
