Police have charged a Revesby man who allegedly fired back at three masked intruders shooting at him at his home in southwest Sydney.
He was one of the four men arrested on Wednesday and Thursday in relation to a shooting at a home in Revesby last November.
Bankstown Detective Chief Inspector Darren Sly said they believe this to be a targeted attack and they are appealing for public help to locate the masked men who fled the scene.
Det Insp Sly said the three men, armed with rifles and a shotgun, allegedly jumped the back fence at a home in Marco Ave, Revesby, at 12.30am on Monday, November 25.
Police will allege in court the men threatened one of the occupants, a 35-year-old man, and three other men, aged 21, 22 and 32.
“We cannot say what the motive was but we say with confidence this is a targeted attack,” he told a press conference at Bankstown.
“The occupant felt he was in some sort of danger … but the use of firearms cannot be tolerated in the community.
“Police are trying to find the three people involved and are appealing for public help.”
According to Det Insp Sly, the 35-year-old man ran into the home and picked up a firearm, before allegedly firing several shots at the armed men, who fled the backyard.
There were a number of horses in the yard but Det Insp Sly said no one or any animal was injured in the shooting.
“They are entitled to keep horses on this property, I don’t know why they are kept for … unfortunately they were in the firing line,” he said.
Bankstown Police Area Command formed Strike Force Evaline to investigate the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators, with the help of specialist tactical officers, arrested the 35-year-old man at a property on Lochinvar Rd, Revesby, at 7.15am on Wednesday.
A search warrant was executed at the home where investigators allegedly located a firearm conversion kit and ammunition.
The 35-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with shoot at with intent to murder, fire firearm in or near public place, possess unauthorised firearm, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and hinder discovery evidence.
He has appeared in Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, where he was refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday, March 11.
Detectives also arrested two men, aged 22 and 21, at homes in Bankstown and Panania just after 7am on Thursday.
Police then arrested a 32-year-old man at a business in Balmain.
The three men were charged with shoot with intent to murder — accessory after the fact, hinder discovery of evidence and conceal serious indictable offence.
They were all refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
