Three or more occupants of a stolen vehicle are wanted by police after a stolen Volkswagen Passat ran a red light and collided with a Hino truck at Villawood early Thursday morning.
The passengers then fled the scene, allegedly leaving behind a loaded shotgun, which police believe was ejected from the stolen vehicle.
They were reportedly running towards Woodville Rd in Villawood when last seen, according to Bankstown Police, who were assisted by officers from the Fairfield station at the accident scene. The driver was the truck was unhurt but police think some of the occupants from the stolen car could be injured.
Chief Inspector Darren Sly of the Bankstown Police Area Command told reporters they are more concerned after allegedly founded a loaded shotgun at the scene.
He said the car had run the red light at the corner of the Hume Highway and Henry Lawson Drive at Villawood around 3.20am.
He said they also believe some of the occupants may have been injured and seeking medical attention. The Volkswagen was reportedly stolen from an address on Citrus St, Chester Hill, on Tuesday, November 27.
”The impact was quite large and the stolen vehicle was pushed a couple of metres but luckily the 48-year-old male truck driver was not injured and did not need medical attention,” Chief Insp Sly said.
“However, looking at the accident scene, there are likely to be injuries among the occupants of the car who may be seeking medical attention.
“Of particular importance we located a loaded shotgun in the vehicle when police arrived.
“We think the gun could have been ejected from the vehicle due to the impact.
“We are seeking for the public to identify the occupants and any witnesses or anyone who may have dash footage of the accident to come forward.”
The Volkswagen was reportedly stolen from an address on Citrus St, Chester Hill, on Tuesday, November 27, Inspector Sly said.
Chief Insp Sly said the vehicle is being forensically checked out and send out a message to those on the run: “Our message to you is that we have got your vehicle and your shotgun and there the its best to come forward and talk to us.”
