Patient allegedly tried to punch Canterbury Hospital security
A Canterbury Hospital patient is due to face court after allegedly lashing out at staff in the emergency department on the weekend.

A male patient, who admitted himself to the emergency department at Canterbury Hospital, allegedly became aggressive towards patients and staff before being subdued by security.
The 38-year-old man, of no fixed address, also allegedly tried to punch two security officers who were attempting to protect a staff member in the ambulance bay on Saturday night.
He was finally subdued by the security until Campsie police arrived to arrest him at Canterbury Hospital, which celebrates 90 years this month.
A spokeswoman from Sydney Local Health Department said “no one was injured in the incident and staff have been offered counselling”.
Campsie Police crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury said the man had suspected stolen drugs from a local medical centre on him and possessed a stolen doctor’s prescription.
HOSPITAL STAFF STRIKE OVER SAFETY CONCERNS
Chief Insp Albury told The Express the man arrived in the emergency department at 8.20pm on Saturday, after suffering minor head injuries in a fall.
“It is alleged he was intoxicated at the time and he began swearing and yelling aggressively at staff and patients,” Chief Insp Albury said.
“He started to walk into other rooms and security was called.

“He was escorted towards the ambulance bay exit when he pushed medical equipment out of his way.”
The man then allegedly threatened other staff with security to stepping in the ambulance bay.
“The man attempted to punch two security officers who were able to restrain him and called police who attended a short time later,” Chief Insp Albury said.
“A search was conducted on the man which located a number of suspected stolen prescriptions which police believe came from a Campsie medical centre.”
The man was charged with affray and goods in custody. He was granted bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday, November 5.
