A father who threatened a deputy principal – saying he would “come down there and sort you out” – after his daughter came home crying following a meeting with her teachers.

A 40-year-old man appeared before Bankstown Local Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to stalk/intimidate after a conversation with the deputy principal of Georges Hall Public School.

Agreed facts state the man’s daughter was spoken to by teachers and the principal in relation to her behaviour at school.

Her father called the school and was transferred onto the deputy principal, despite demanding to speak with the principal.

“(The man) said ‘if she comes home crying one more time then I’m going to come down there and sort you out’,” the facts state.

“The victim said ‘I’m going to hang up on you now’ and ended the phone call.”

The deputy principal made handwritten notes following the conversation and contacted police.

The parent attended Bankstown police station on May 10 and told officers his “daughter came home from school highly upset with complaints about the way staff members were treating her.”

“(The man) denied making any threats to the victim, he said that he did say he was going to the Department of Education because he wanted to make complaints about the behaviour of staff members,” the facts state.

The man’s lawyer said his client was “ashamed of his conduct” and wanted to apologise to the school but there’s an order preventing him from attending.

He said while the words were “intimidating” they were “not at the high end of threatening”.

Magistrate Glenn Walsh said the 50-year-old’s actions were “not a trivial offence”.

“We shouldn’t threaten them (teachers) with physical violence … to phone up somebody was a threat of physical violence,” Mr Walsh said. The man was convicted and sentenced to a 12 month community correction order.
