“My YouTube tutorials on Photoshop and Illustrator allow my lessons to be student centred.

“Students are also able to become more confident and creative learners through these videos, using them as guides to create their artworks.”

As a part of their prize, Ms Gribble and the other winners, took part an exclusive workshop with some of YouTube’s leading content specialists and digital experts at the Google Australia headquarters. They also met maths genius and YouTube sensation Eddie Woo.

“Attending the Google workshop allowed me to collaborate with other teachers from NSW,” Ms Gribble said.

“It was great to connect and discuss how we contribute and can better students education through the use of ICT (Information and communications technology).

“The workshop also allowed us to gain insight on how to enhance our YouTube channels and create quality education channels for our students.”.

”Since my Visual Design class is a popular and large class I made the YouTube tutorial to act as step by step guides for the students to learn from.

“Students who are advanced are able to progress faster by moving on to the next task, while other students can complete the work with the tutorials and me as a facilitator for learning.

“I find that students like using ICT in the classroom as it gives them a voice.

“Students like this option as they are able to be anonymous and it allows all students a voice.”

NSW Department of Education Deputy Secretary, School Operations and Performance, Murat Dizdar said The Learning Edge spotlights the exceptional work done by secondary school teachers in public schools across NSW and supports strong learning outcomes for students.
