A man has faced court accused of cultivating cannabis and selling it following a crackdown on drug manufacturing in Sydney’s southwest.
Mrwan Sayah, 30, was denied bail at Bankstown Local Court on Monday after police raided his Riverwood home and allegedly discovered 1kg of cannabis and more than $41,000 in cash.
The investigation was part of Strike Force Polar, which was established last year to investigate ongoing drug manufacture and drug supply in the Bankstown area.
At 7am on Friday (October 15), investigators executed two search warrants, including at Sayah’s Riverwood home and a home in Georges Hall.
Upon allegedly seizing 1.3kg of cannabis, $41,118 in cash, as well as small amounts of buprenorphine and cannabis oil at the home, Sayah was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
Police will allege the $41,118 was suspected of being stolen.
Sayah was charged with nine offences including cultivating cannabis plant, supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime and goods suspected of being stolen in premises, as well as drug possession.
He applied for bail at Bankstown Local Court on Monday, which was refused by Magistrate Daniel Covington.
On a search of the Georges Hall home on Friday, police seized 2L liquid GBL, 100g of cocaine, 30g of the drug ice, mobile phones and more than $2000 cash.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with 13 offences including supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, recklessly deal with the proceeds of crime and supply prohibited drug on an ongoing basis.
Sayah will return to court next month.
