A learner driver will appear in court after allegedly crashing into three cars before running away from cops in Sydney’s southwest yesterday.
About 12.40pm on October 13, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command tried to stop a vehicle on Pirie St, Liverpool, for the purposes of a roadside breath test.
The driver, 34, allegedly failed to stop, leading to a police pursuit.
The vehicle travelled through Liverpool before allegedly crashing into three other cars on Castlereagh St.
Two people in the other cars, including an 85-year-old and a 68-year-old woman, suffered injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The 34-year-old allegedly fled from the scene on foot, before he was arrested a short distance away.
Onlookers in a nearby cafe on Macquarie St filmed the scene on their phones and uploaded it to Snapchat.
The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit (not stop — drive dangerously), drive recklessly/furiously or speed in a manner that is dangerous, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), fail to stop and assist after impact caused injuries, not give particulars to other driver, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, learner driver not display “L” plates as prescribed, and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court today.
More to come.
