Police allege three men took part in a vicious brawl that broke out during an under-13 rugby league match at Bankstown last month.
Mohamed El Sanoussi, Rabih Chamma and Christopher James Luximon faced Bankstown Local Court on Thursday, where they all pleaded not guilty to one charge of affray.
The men entered the not guilty pleas following the melee at the Bankstown Bulls v Cabramatta semi-final at Ruse Park on August 24.
Police allege El Sanoussi, 39, and Chamma, 38, used “unlawful violence” and attacked Luximon, 36. It’s also alleged Luximon violently retaliated in a manner police believe caused others to fear for their safety.
Officers were called to the home turf of the Bankstown Bulls Junior Rugby League Football Club about midday on Saturday, August 24 following reports of the brawl during the match.
Bankstown Police Area Command officers were told several people involved in the incident had already left the area.
Following investigations, police arrested the three men and they were granted conditional bail.
Luximon’s lawyer Najee Makhoul of firm Makhoul & Associates told media outside the court on Thursday that he would be taking a closer look at footage of the incident to “determine what that will show before moving forward with the case”.
“That’s all I will say at this point. We have entered a plea of not guilty and we will await the brief of evidence,” Mr Makhoul said.
The three men had their cases adjourned to November 21.
