Man arrested over alleged multimillion-dollar supply of illegal firearms, drugs

Police arrested a seventh man after stopping him in a Mercedes on a street in Bankstown, following investigations into the supply of illegal firearms and prohibited drugs, worth more than $15 million, in south west Sydney.

Police arrested a seventh man after stopping him in a Mercedes on a Bankstown street, following intensive investigations into the supply of illegal firearms and prohibited drugs, worth more than $15 million, in south west Sydney.

Wednesday’s arrest of a seventh man comes after special strike force teams seized 11 firearms, more than 600 rounds of ammunition, more than $600,000 cash, and prohibited drugs worth an estimated potential street value of about $14 million, after executive search warrants in properties in Bankstown, Bass Hill, Condell Park, Revesby and Hurstville between February and April.

Six people were charged and are currently before the courts.

“As part of their inquiries, police also issued an arrest warrant for a 29-year-old man, who was established as having links to the criminal syndicate now before the courts following DNA examination of a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol seized during February search warrants,” a police spokesman said.

At around 5.30pm on Wednesday, the Police Transport Command South/South West Action Group stopped a Mercedes SUV on Fairford Rd, Bankstown, and spoke with a 29-year-old male driver from Picnic Point.

“He was arrested after checks revealed the outstanding warrant, and he was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where investigators attached to Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad later attended,” the spokesman said.

“The Picnic Point man was charged by virtue of a warrant for the offence of possess unregistered firearm-pistol,”

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court.

Between February and April this year, officers attached to Wetherill Park RES with help from Bass Hill RES have executed search warrants in South Hurstville, Bankstown, Bass Hill, Condell Park, and Revesby.
