After a day knocking back beers, a female tradie accused her partner of infidelity before arming herself with a kitchen knife and slashing his car tyre.

Punchbowl woman Melissa Lindsay, 45, fronted Burwood Local Court on Monday after she breached an apprehended violence order (AVO) and attacked a police officer when they tried to arrest her.

The tradeswoman pleaded guilty to a string of offences including assaulting and resisting a police officer, destroying property, possessing a knife in a public place, contravening an AVO and being armed with the intention to commit an indictable offence.

Documents tendered to Burwood Local Court reveal how Lindsay found herself kicking out at police officers while in the back of a caged police vehicle on November 11.

Police facts state Lindsay’s partner of seven years took out an AVO against her on May 4 at Bankstown Local Court.

After finishing work about 4pm on the day of the incident, Lindsay knocked back some beers. Soon after, she found herself breaching the AVO when she was picked up by her partner at Campsie and driven to her Punchbowl home.

“During this time, (Lindsay) engaged in a verbal argument with (her partner), accusing him of being unfaithful,” police facts state.

“She then walked to her house and obtained a kitchen knife of around 30cm in length.”

From here, the court heard, Lindsay walked down her driveway and threatened to slash her partner’s car tyres.

“After a brief argument (she) stabbed the front passenger side tyre with the knife causing it to be permanently destroyed,” police facts state.

The court heard the partner called police and when officers arrived on the scene they saw Lindsay drinking a beer on the front fence and arguing with her partner.

She was placed under arrest which led her to become “argumentative and uncooperative” with the officers, the court heard.

She was then placed in handcuffs and moved into a caged police vehicle.

“(Lindsay) resisted police by physically pushing against (a constable) and refusing to be put in the police vehicle,” court documents state. “She continued to attempt to get out of the police vehicle … and lifted her right leg and attempted to kick (a police officer) several times to the facial area.”

After eventually being contained, the police facts state Lindsay continued to “threaten the life” of her partner. She also kicked the door and walls of the police vehicle incessantly.

In court, Magistrate Andrew Miller adjourned the matter for sentencing later this year. Lindsay remains on bail.
