Man charged after man shot, woman bashed in Chester Hill home invasion

A man has been charged following a six-month manhunt after allegations of five attackers armed with guns, knives and a baseball bat stormed a home, shooting one occupant and injuring another.

A man has been charged following a six-month police manhunt after five alleged attackers armed with guns, knives and a baseball bat stormed a home in Sydney’s west and injured two family members.

Officers were called to Esme Ave in Chester Hill about 4.30pm on September 28 last year following reports shots had been fired.

Police were told at least five attackers armed with guns, knives and a baseball bat forced their way into the home and confronted the occupants.

Karam El-Osta, 23, was arrested at Parklea Correctional Centre yesterday following a six-month investigation and was charged with specially aggravated break and enter with intent armed with dangerous weapon and discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A 46-year-old woman was allegedly hit with the bat, while a 48-year-old man allegedly shot at and suffered from leg wounds.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries, but did not require hospital treatment.

The woman also did not require further treatment.

El-Osta did not appear via audiovisual link as his lawyer made no application for bail and requested for the matter to be adjourned.

The magistrate granted the adjournment for April 12 at Burwood Local Court.
