East Hills train station will finally have lifts following a commitment by the NSW Government, with the community being given a say in the designing of the upgrade.

Canterbury and Yagoona are among the other stations on the busy south west railway network which do not have lift access at present.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet joined outgoing East Hills state Liberal MP Glenn Brookes and the Liberal candidate for the seat, Wendy Lindsay, to announce the funding which will improve accessibility.

Work will start in the next term of the Government, it was confirmed.

The announcement comes ahead of next month’s state elections, with East Hills being the most marginal seat in the state.

On Tuesday at Revesby, Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Services Minister Dominic Dominello, announced the rolling out of mobile Service NSW buses to meet the needs of people in south west Sydney, including Revesby and Roselands.

Mr Brookes, who steps down at the end of his second term, said work on the upgrade will begin in the next term of government though planning is under way.

“Our government has listened to the local community and we know accessible transport is

key to good quality of life, that’s why we have made these upgrades at East Hills station a top

priority,” Mr Brookes said.

“We are committed to making public transport accessible for all customers, including those

with a disability, the less mobile and parents with prams.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said since 2011 the NSW Government has committed more than $2.2 billion to the Transport Access Program, with more than 450 projects either completed or under way across the state.

Ms Lindsay said it is important that East Hills station can be more easily accessed by everyone.

“As part of the planning approval process, the community and stakeholders will also have the

opportunity to provide feedback on proposed designs,” she said.

Ku-ring-gai state Liberal MP Alister Henskens was also present at the announcement.
