The battle for the marginal seat of East Hills is heating up with Labor announcing they will demolish the ageing Revesby police station if elected to build a state-of-the-art precinct.

Saying the Revesby station was built way back in 1953, East Hills Labor candidate Cameron Murphy and Bankstown state Labor MP Tania Mihailuk promised to build a new station if they win the elections.

“Revesby will be the first police station to be rebuilt under Labor’s $80 million investment to upgrade police stations across NSW if we win the election,” Ms Mihailuk told the Express.

Incidentally, Police Minister Troy Grant highlighted the poor state of several police stations across NSW when he spoke at a Police Association meeting at Bankstown Sports earlier this month.

East Hills is the most imaginal seat in NSW with incumbent Liberal MP Glenn Brookes stepping down after two terms.

The NSW Government’s big hitters, led by Premier Gladys Berejiklian, have visited East Hills to announce big projects in recent weeks; while federal Labor leader Bill Shorten and NSW Opposition leader Mike Daley visited the area to drum up support.

Labor said in the 12 months to September, 2018 there were 1,540 incident of assault on law enforcement premises in NSW, an increase of 20 per cent compared to the previous year.

“The run-down state of Revesby police station has been raised with me by residents and I am pleased that Labor will deliver this,” Mr Murphy said.

“The Liberal Government have allowed Revesby Police Station to become an eyesore.

“This commitment from Labor will give our brave police a safe place to work and will make our community safer.”

Ms Mihailuk said the main aim of the much needed upgrade will be to improve security so officers and the community feel safe in the police station.

“Under the Liberals for eight years there hasn’t been a cent spent on upgrading our stations with Revesby in desperate need of an upgrade,” Ms Mihailuk said.

“We can now announce that a Daley Labor Government will build a new station at Revesby.”

Opposition police spokesman Guy Zangari said NSW police officers deserve to have the resources and facilities to keep the communities safe.
