Tributes are flowing for a young father killed after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree in Sydney’s southwest.
Emergency services were called to Henry Lawson Drive, near the Hume Hwy in Lansdowne, about 11pm on Sunday following reports a Volkswagen Golf had smashed into a tree.
Jordan Afa Ainiu, who was a passenger in the car, and the driver both died at the scene.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash and police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact them.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Family and friends have remembered Mr Ainiu for his optimism and laugh “that could brighten up a room”.
His uncle, Jeph Filipaina, said Mr Ainiu had left behind a three-month-old son.
The 22-year-old was originally from Melbourne and had moved to Sydney to be with his partner.
Mr Filipaina said his nephew will “always be engraved in each and everyone’s hearts”.
Mr Ainiu has been described by family on social media as “the most loving, entertaining and protective person” to family as well as everybody he met.
“To my cousin Jordan Afa Ainiu my heart is so heavy right now. You we’re (sic) just starting to build your own little family and seeing your son today made everything real,” a family member posted on Facebook.
Others remembered him as someone who “just always loved to make people laugh” and who loved his family.
