A proud Mercedes Benz owner who won his pride and joy in a competition has faced court after he allegedly attempted a burnout in Sydney’s southwest and set it on fire.

Jean Pierre Mouawad, 26, found himself lucky when he won a $160,000 Mercedes AMG C63S coupe in a raffle run by car group LMCT Plus in May 2020.

But less than a year later Mr Mouawad found himself at Bankstown Local Court after the luxury vehicle caught fire when he was allegedly performing burnouts.

Mr Mouawad was allegedly performing burnouts at 12.30pm on January 17 in front of a large crowd on Marks Street at Chester Hill, in Sydney’s southwest, as part of a wedding parade.

Onlookers filmed as he allegedly revved the powerful car’s engine causing smoke to billow from the car and catch on fire.

Footage from the moment posted to social media show three men scramble to flee the vehicle and escape injury.

The $160,000 car was completely destroyed, with pictures posted to social media showing the interior completely melted by the blaze.

Mr Mouawad was then charged by NSW Police with driving recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and negligent driving.

He pleaded guilty to the first charge of driving recklessly on Thursday but will appear back in court on March 25 to formally enter pleas to both offences.

The 26-year-old walked out of court with a smirk on his face but refused to comment when approached by media.
