After a dramatic foot chase which ended in a failed attempt to scale a fence, Raptor detectives picked up a Tommy Hilfiger bum bag containing a stash of drugs and cash.
Belmore man Feyz Ghanem, 36, fronted court on Monday after pleading guilty to two counts of drug supply, drug possession and dealing in the proceeds of crime.
Documents tendered to court lay out how Ghanem and another man found themselves in the crosshairs of Strike Force Raptor detectives on April 30.
According to police facts, just before 9am both Ghanem and the other man were depicted on CCTV footage at parked in a white Toyota outside Greenacre motel. Ghanem’s offsider allegedly entered one of the motel rooms before quickly leaving and exiting the premises with Ghanem in the car’s passenger seat.
Soon after, Strike Force Raptor police officers noticed the two men turn right onto Boronia Rd, Greenacre, and followed the men for the purposes of conducting a roadside breath test, a court heard.
“The white Toyota accelerated away from the police vehicle, turning left into Highview Ave … (and police) observed that the white Toyota was now stationary on the corner kerb of Highview Ave and Chiswick Rd,” police facts state.
“Police then saw (the men) alight from the vehicle and run along the pedestrian footpath … (they then) saw both men attempt to climb a properties’ side fence. They were unsuccessful.”
Both men were arrested and police found Ghanem in possession of four mobile phones as well as a bum bag containing 0.24g of heroin, a court heard.
When police searched the car, they also found 24.43g of meth and a separate Tommy Hilfiger bum bag which had been thrown onto a roof as the men failed to scale the fence.
This bum bag contained 19.49g of heroin and $8760 in cash.
In court, the crown prosecutor Andrew McDonald submitted the offence should result in Ghanem being sentenced to jail.
In response, Ghanem’s lawyer said his client had a traumatic upbringing and his poor mental health had reduced his culpability.
Magistrate Andrew Miller adjourned the matter until March 14 so Ghanem’s lawyer could better establish connections between his client’s offending and his mental health.
