A man was allegedly kidnapped at knifepoint and “significantly assaulted” while trying to deliver divorce papers, a court has heard.

One of his alleged abductors, Greenacre man Faizan Ahmed, was refused bail when he faced Bankstown Local Court via audiovisual link on Tuesday.

Ahmed, 28, is yet to enter pleas to charges of robbery in company, kidnapping occasioning bodily harm, and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order.

Police say the alleged kidnapping victim went to a Bankstown home on October 17 to serve Ahmed with divorce papers.

Ahmed, in the company of another male, allegedly pulled a knife out and held it against the man’s throat, forcibly detaining him before stealing his work boots.

It is alleged the man was “assaulted significantly” before the person with Ahmed intervened.

Ahmed was arrested the next day.

Police allege that during the arrest, Ahmed refused to provide access to a mobile phone and a CCTV hard drive.

On Tuesday, police prosecutor David Ghebranious told the court that, following the alleged incident, Ahmed had made several threats against the man including that he knew where he lived.

“(Ahmed) threatened the victim about making any reports or naming them,” the prosecutor alleged.

“He told the victim he was lucky (he) was not cut by the knife.”

Ahmed’s lawyer told the court his client had no criminal associations and “had the capacity to abide by court orders.

Magistrate Glenn Walsh refused Ahmed’s bail application, saying the risk of him committing offences or breaching bail conditions was too strong.

“The manner of the (alleged) offending behaviour connotes a person who lost all control or didn’t want to exert control over their behaviour,” Mr Walsh said.

“But for the interceding of the co-accused, I do not know what would have happened (to the man).”

While court documents alleged Ahmed had acted “with at least one other male offender”, there was no indication as to whether anyone else had been charged.

The matter was adjourned to Burwood Local Court on December 18.
