A 74-year-old woman and younger man have been arrested after an alleged drug and beauty product raid at two locations in Bankstown and Punchbowl.

$25,000 worth of stolen retail goods seized in Sydney arrests

An elderly woman and younger man have been charged after police, investigating shoplifting at several Coles supermarkets, allegedly seized $25,000 worth of goods at a home and storage unit in south west Sydney,

Bankstown police allege cannabis, methylamphetamine, cocaine, baby formula and beauty products were seized during the search. Acting Inspector Peter Campton of Bankstown Police told the Express they had been investing the thefts at several Coles supermarkets over the past couple of months.

The duo, aged 74 and 33, were arrested during a police operation targeting retail theft and property-related offences at Coles supermarkets across the Sydney Metropolitan area.

“Bankstown Police have been conducting an investigation into large shoplifting cases over the past two months with the Coles Profit Protection team,” Acting Insp Campton said.

“We were investigating the large number of beauty products stolen from Coles stores across the Sydney Metropolitan area.”

About 9.45am on Tuesday, June 25, police officers executed two search warrants at a Punchbowl home and a storage unit in Bankstown.

During the search, police allegedly located and allegedly seized prohibited drugs believed to be cannabis, methylamphetamine, cocaine, along with beauty products, personal hygiene products, multi vitamins and baby formula.

Acting Insp Campton said the estimated value of items seized at the storage unit was approximately $25,000.

Police allege the man was arrested at the Punchbowl home and the woman at the Bankstown storage facility. Both were taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The man was charged with 18 shoplifting offences and three counts of possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today.

The woman has been issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for receiving stolen property and dealing with proceeds of crime.

She will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, July 17.
