Superintendent Murray Reynolds told media it was possible neither the truck driver or the woman saw each other before the collision.

“The driver was driving from the left hand side of the garbage truck, which is not entirely unusual,” Supt Reynolds said.

“Anybody who may have dash cam footage or be aware of a lady from the Chester Hill area, she’s known around the area but her name is not known, but she’s known to be in and around the shopping centre quite regularly,” Supt Reynolds said.

He is urging anyone who may have known the woman to come forward.

“It’s possible that the driver has been oblivious and similarly, the pedestrian oblivious to the truck,” he said.

“At this point in time distraction does not appear to be an obvious contributor.”

Supt Reynolds said the incident was traumatic for everybody involved, including the woman’s family.

The 32-year-old has been granted conditional bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on March 11.
