The community and local business, impacted by the proposed changes to parking during the temporary closure of a section of the T3 Bankstown Line for the Metro upgrade during the Christmas break are encouraged to send in their submissions.
The government will start the upgrade of several stations on the Sydnenham-Bankstown Line between December 24 and January 5.
There will be up to 90 buses running during peak hours over the holiday period between Punchbowl and Central stations, which will affect road traffic and parking.
There will be temporary kerbside changes around stations at:
■ Punchbowl (The Boulevard and South Terrace.
■ Wiley Park (The Boulevard)
■ Lakemba (The Boulevard)
■ Belmore (Bridge Rd)
■ Campsie (Beamish St, South Pde and Shakespeare St)
■ Canterbury (Canterbury Rd)
■ Dulwich Hill (Dudley St)
■ Marrickville (Illawarra Rd)
■ Sydenham (Lower Railway Pde)
The Metro upgrade for the Bankstown Line has been opposed some in the community who are welcoming the inquiry by the NSW Upper House into the Sydney Metro Southwest.
Submissions for this inquiry will end on October 4 and the committee is scheduled to release its report on March 31, 2020.
Transport for NSW Coordinator General Marg Prendergast said that community feedback will be used to finalise kerbside parking and stopping changes for the replacement buses.
“The changes we want to make to parking, loading zones and taxi stands would help refine rail replacement bus operations around stations on the T3 Line over the holiday break,” Ms Prendergast said.
She said train services will continue to run on part of the T3 Line during the upgrade, with a majority of the T3 Line commuters having access to trains to the city from Campsie via Lidcombe.
“We’re carrying out this work during the quieter holiday period to minimise disruption to customers,” Ms Prendergast said.
“We know that patronage is reduced by around 35 per cent during the holiday period.”
Sydney Metro City & Southwest to Bankstown will open in 2024.
