MEET Marley — Campsie’s luckiest boxer.

Eight months after being involved in a brutal hit and run, Marley has beaten all the odds and just celebrated her first birthday.

It was a milestone the dog’s owner, Ana Phillips, never thought she’d make after the horrific incident left Marley with two compound fractures and severe blood loss.

Ana, a paramedic at Campsie ambulance station, had been on night shift and was sleeping when the incident happened in July.

“I woke up to the sound of police scanners and when I went to the front door I saw a huge pool of blood and Marley with police officers,” Ms Phillips recalled.

“She was conscious and she wagged her tail when she saw me. It was a horrible experience.”

The police drove Marley and Ms Phillips to the vet, and later the young pup would need two surgeries and six weeks of rehabilitation.

Despite almost losing her legs, Marley is now back to her energetic self.

“She’s doing remarkably considering what she’s been through,” Ms Phillips said.

“She has got problems with her circulation and still has (steel) pins but amazingly she looks like a normal dog again.”

Sadly no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the hit and run, and Ms Phillips has been faced with medical bills in excess of $20,000.

To help, her colleague at Campsie station, James Braude, started a GoFundMe campaign.

With the help of fellow paramedics and the Campsie community, some of whom were strangers, the campaign raised $4,200 for Marley.

Ms Phillip’s colleagues also popped in regularly to see how Marley was doing during her recovery.

On Thursday, Marley celebrated her first birthday with a family barbecue in Campsie.
