BYSTANDERS rushed to pull out a three-year-old girl after the car she was travelling in, left the road and hit a tree in Bankstown this afternoon.
The child, who has head injuries, was rushed by ambulance to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead after the CareFlight doctor and critical care parademic, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, treated her at the scene.
Her mother, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to another hospital with suspected chest injuries, according to CareFlight.
A police spokeswoman said the child’s injury is not as serious as initially feared and she is being kept under observation.
The child was reportedly unconscious initially, according to the CareFlight medical team, which arrived at the scene after its helicopter landed at a vacant block near Marion street just before 1pm.
A CareFlight spokesman said the girl’s mother, who was driving the vehicle was in hospital.
“She was assessed by their doctor during the journey to hospital with suspected chest injuries,” he said. “She was later transferred to an adult hospital.”
He said the girl had been in the child restraint in the back seat..
A police spokeswoman said they are investigating the accident.
“Part of the investigations will include checking if the child restraint was fixed properly,” the police spokeswoman said.
