An alleged home invader has been accused of choking a woman during a violent intrusion in Sydney’s southwest, where a man is also said to have been shot.

Bass Hill man Osama Momani, 22, represented himself in Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.

He is yet to enter pleas to charges of aggravated break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, stalking or intimidation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, and intentionally choking a person without consent.

Police claim Momani was one of five men who broke into a Chester Hill home, where a 46-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat and her 48-year-old partner shot in the leg.

Officers were called to the home about 4.30pm on September 28 last year, following reports shots had been fired.

Police will allege Momani assaulted and choked the woman and intimidated her partner during the intrusion.

The couple were treated at the scene but did not require hospitalisation, while several children in the home were unharmed.

Following a year of investigations, Momani was the second person to be charged over the incident.

Strike Force Kairawa detectives, from the NSW Police robbery and serious crime squad, arrested him in September this year.

Co-accused Karem El-Osta had earlier been arrested in April, when he was charged with specially aggravated break and enter with intent and discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He remains before the courts.

Momani’s matter is expected to return to Burwood Local Court on January 8, with his bail continued in the interim.

Investigations under Strike Force Kairawa are ongoing.
