Bankstown Sports finalists at 2019 Clubs and Community Awards

Local clubs, including Bankstown Sports, Campsie RSL, Canterbury League Club and Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club are finalists in the 2019 Clubs & Community Awards.

Bankstown Sports, one of the largest and successful clubs in the country, is in the running for four top honours at the Clubs NSW Clubs & Community Awards.

Campsie RSL (supporting Gordon in Emergency Services), Canterbury League Club (Cooking Club in Disability, Welfare & Social Inclusion) and Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club (Mindfulness Training for Schools in education) are also in the finals which has attracted entries from more than 100 clubs.

The awards recognise the outstanding social contributions made by clubs in their local area

and throughout the state, with the drought emerging as a key area of support.

Bankstown Sports CEO Mark Condi said their community is at the heart of everything they do.

“These awards acknowledge the outstanding social contributions made by clubs in their local communities, and it really is an honour to be named as a finalist,” Mr Condi said.

“Clubs are doing some extraordinary things and are investing in important programs that create long term benefits for their communities, and this event is a chance to thank everyone involved in these initiatives”.

“Our community is at the heart of everything we do here at Bankstown Sports, and our grassroots sporting clubs are the backbone of our entire organisation.

“Without them, we wouldn’t have a purpose or a vision to strive towards”.

Little Wings submitted a nomination on behalf of Bankstown Sports, as a thank you to the club for their support and providing a new home for their office.

Bankstown Sports have been nominated in the Clubs in Collaboration for their project Beyond Bricks to Enrichment (Bankstown City Aged Care), with Bass Hill RSL,

Chester Hill RSL & Bowling Club, Club Condell Park, Panania Diggers and Revesby Workers.

For over 45 years, clubs in Bankstown have come together to support the evolvement of Bankstown City Aged Care, which is now one of the most respected aged care facilities in the Bankstown region and is directly affected by the clubs’ support.

Bankstown Sports are finalists in these categories:

Disability, Welfare and Social Inclusion: Cricket For All. The club contributes to the local and global community by providing a home for a team with disabilities (in conjunction with RSAC), donates used sporting goods to Uganda and being a leader in developing women in the game of cricket.

Education: Where the Good Men Grow: Punchbowl Boys High School and Bankstown Sports have developed a positive and firm relationship over the last 14 years, which has only grown in strengths in the last 18 months. Bankstown Sports supports a variety of programs, including Punchbowl Pioneers basketball Team, the STAR Program, the new school house shirts and the new e-learning centre.

Support of Amateur Sport: Acres of Revitalisation Through Sport. Since amalgamating with The Acres in 2016, the club has been working hard to ensure they stay true to the bowling club’s roots by promoting and fostering access to sport. They have introduced heavily discounted Auskick Clinics for students in the Greenacre area and begun a steady relationship with Strathfield Strikers.

Heart of the Community: There’s no place like home. Little Wings nominated Bankstown Sports as a thank you for the support the club has provided the organisation over the last five years which has included cash, in-kind, volunteering, fundraising. Little Wings has moved into the Bankstown Sports premises with new administration offices.

The finalists are split into nine awards categories: Arts & Culture, Clubs in Collaboration,

Disability, Welfare & Social Inclusion, Education, Emergency Services, Health & Wellbeing,

Heart of the Community, Support of Amateur Sport, and Youth Leadership.

The winners will be announced at the Clubs & Community Awards gala dinner to be held at

the International Convention Centre, Sydney, on November 2.
