A two-storey townhouse has been successfully saved from fire in a southwest Sydney street, in which a separate fire claimed the life of a person in July.
Firefighters were called to Ogmore Cct, Bankstown, just before 2am after a fire ignited in the front of a garage.
People inside the house were immediately evacuated, and the fire was cut off before it could take hold.
A mobility scooter was destroyed by the fire and two cars were damaged.
The fatal house fire on Ogmore Cct took place on July 16. Seven fire trucks were called to the home in the early hours of the morning, arriving to flames and a large plume of smoke.
A subsequent search discovered the body of a person in the room where the fire was believed to have started.
Fire and Rescue NSW superintendent Adam Dewberry said the blaze served as a timely reminder that homes must be fitted with a working smoke alarm is less than 10 years old.
