A major multimillion-dollar “revolutionary” revamp has been announced for Bankstown Airport to transform the site into Australia’s leading aviation and industrial gateway.

Aeria Management Group CEO Daniel Jarosch unveiled a $130m plan for a new aviation and mixed use precinct at Bankstown Airport projected to generate an additional 4000 jobs during the annual CBEvolve event, flanked by Canterbury-Bankstown mayor Bilal El-Hayek.

Bankstown Airport is the third largest busiest in the country and contributed more than $1bn to the NSW economy through more than 160 businesses and 6500 jobs at the adjoining Altitude Premier Logistics Estate.

The site also services the state’s emergency aviation services including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the RFS, PolAir and the NSW flying ambulance service.

Mr Jarosch said $50m would oversee a new aviation precinct at the northeast side of the Bankstown Airport with a focus on advanced aviation technologies.

The precinct would include nine new hangers and a VIP aircraft access for critical operations including emergency services and flight training.

“This is worth so much more than $50m … Bankstown is positioned to be the launch pad of all things advanced air mobility into the future,” Mr Jarosch said.

“We celebrated the work AMSL Aero is doing with Australia’s first flying car and we believe that general aviation airports like Bankstown airports will be the launch pad for these technologies and the adoption of them in society.”

A second cash injection of $80m would be “aimed at the community, industry and jobs” to include a mixed-used retail precinct with offices, shops and a childcare centre for more than 100 children.

“The development will deliver amenities to the community and attract people to our existing Aerial precinct and meet the demand of industrial and small business users for warehouses in the area,” he said.

The number of retailers and any tenancies on the 3ha site is to be announced following further community and government consultations.

Aerial CEO Daniel Jarosch said the $130m developments would be entirely funded by Aware Super with construction expected to commence by the end of 2024.

“I’m incredibly excited about what we are doing to really elevate southwest Sydney and Canterbury Bankstown as we’re a strategic trade gateway as an airport,” Mr Jarosch said.

Canterbury-Bankstown mayor Bilal El-Hayek said he welcomed the multimillion-dollar plans for the Altitude Premier Logistics Estate.

“The potential to double the number of jobs and investment in our city is not a ‘pie in the

sky’ vision – it’s a reality,” he said.
