A disgruntled former car salesman scratched 13 vehicles and caused more than $15,000 damage after he was dismissed from his job at a southern Sydney dealership.

George Exarhacos, 50, was sentenced to an three-year community corrections order and 120 hours’ community service after damaging the vehicles’ bonnets in the Dominelli Group car yard in Arncliffe.

Exarhacos was caught on CCTV entering the sales yard on August 26 and November 28 and damaging the vehicles with an unknown item hidden in his pocket as he attempted to conceal his face with a Nissan umbrella.

George Exarhacos, 50, pleaded guilty to scratching 13 vehicles.

“The damage caused to the vehicles owned by the victim in this incident is substantial,” police facts stated.

“Not only did it cause stress to staff members employee by the victim but serious disruptions to the day-to-day business.”

Exarhacos was ordered to pay $15,893.92 in compensation to the Dominelli Group for the damage to the vehicles, which include several second-hand Toyotas, Mazdas, a Peugeot and a Dodge.

Police facts state Exarhacos worked at Dominelli Group’s Ford, Mazda and Nissan franchises from 2013 until April 2018 when he was dismissed for disciplinary reasons.

A subsequent Fair Work unfair dismissal hearing did not rule in favour of Exarhacos.

Magistrate Jayeann Carney at Sutherland Local Court accepted Exarhacos’ actions were influenced by his frustration about his job loss and his mental health at the time.

“It was clearly planned and clearly deliberate,” Ms Carney told the court.

“He’s harming himself, really, by bringing himself into the court and the compensation order, which is going to affect his lifestyle.”

The most extensive case of individual damage was to a 2013 Nissan Dualis, which needed $2282.30 worth of repairs.
