He is a real tough cookie with a long history and a man who assaulted two bouncers at one of Sydney’s most infamous retro clubs is paying dearly for it.

Wade Pickery, 30, unwisely rose up to the challenge of his rivals when he was ejected from Gymea’s Vinyl Room on February 2 for being drunk and disorderly.

The Sutherland man told two male security guards they were “lucky (he) didn’t smack them” before shoving one into the venue’s front door.

Magistrate Les Mabbutt convicted Pickery at Sutherland Local Court and fined him $500 for failing to leave a licensed premises and $1500 for two counts of common assault.

“The accused was in the smoking area at the front of the premises … when he was asked to leave due to being intoxicated,” the agreed police facts stated.

“The first guard … attempted to show the accused a 50m card and the accused reached out and hit his right hand, knocking the card out of his hand.”

The smooth criminal then challenged the second security guard and the venue’s licensee when his attempts to re-enter the club were rebuffed.

“The accused turned back towards the second guard and with both hands lashed out in an aggressive manner, pushing him to the chest,” the agreed police facts stated.

“The push caused the guard to lose balance and fall back into the door.”

Mr Mabbutt acknowledged it had been almost 10 years since Pickery had faced court.

“You’ve got a history of violence — you don’t have a good record,” Mr Mabbutt said.

Pickery was also sentenced to a community corrections order for 12 months which requires him to be of good behaviour.

Another one bites the dust.
