Three charged after several break-ins in Menai, Barden Ridge and Bangor

Three people have been arrested and charged after a shocking spate of alleged break-ins over the weekend in the Sutherland Shire

Sutherland Shire Police Area Command crime manager Andrea Panozzo said officers had received numerous reports of vehicles and homes being broken into in the Menai, Barden Ridge and Bangor areas between May 27 and May 27.

“In response, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command conducted a proactive policing response, targeting the areas where the break-ins were reported,” Detective Inspector Panozzo said.

“Following inquiries, three people have been arrested and all were charged – one in relation to one of the reported offences.”

Investigators also located and seized three stolen cars in the local area, which are believed to be linked to the weekend’s astonishing alleged crime spree.

“Inquiries into the alleged break-ins continue with targeted mobile patrols occurring across the area,” Det Insp Panozzo said.

“Police encourage anyone who witnesses a break-in or suspicious activity to contact triple-0 immediately.”

Residents from Menai, Barden Ridge and Bangor had taken to social media in droves to report their homes and cars had allegedly been broken into over the weekend.

Figures from the Bureau of Crime Statistics reveal the number of thefts from dwellings in Barden Ridge rose from four to 14 in the past five years.

The number of break and enters in Menai dropped significantly from 26 in 2014 to four in 2018.
