A Sydney mother jailed after she sent horrifying sexual images of her children to their paedophile dance teacher Grant Davies has been fined after she failed to inform police she had applied for a passport.

The southern Sydney woman spent 18 months in jail and is a registered sex offender until 2032 after she repeatedly forced her two daughters, who were then both younger than 14, to pose for explicit photos and videos she sent to Grant Davies supposedly to advance their careers.

Davies, 42, was jailed for at least 18 years in 2016 after the court found he had sexually abused nine of his students at RG Dance in Chiswick in Sydney’s inner west.

The woman was charged on April 16 after she had informed police of her overseas travel plans and they discovered details for a passport in her name.

As a registrable person under the Child Protection (Offenders Registration) Act, the woman is required to inform police of relevant personal information such as the existence of a passport.

“On April 11 the accused provided police with an application for travel, and on this application were (details) of the accused’s passport,” agreed police facts stated.

“Police did not have a record of this current passport.”

The woman pleaded guilty to failing to comply with her reporting obligations before Magistrate Les Mabbutt at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday and was fined $1500.

“She stated that she was sorry and was going to do it and there was no intention of doing anything without telling the police,” agreed police facts stated.

The woman’s case shocked Sydney as details of how Davies groomed her came out in court.

At Downing Centre District Court in 2016 Judge Peter Zahra said the woman told the court she “fell under Davies’ spell” as she was overcome by ambition for her daughters’ dance careers.

The court heard she took numerous photos off her daughters for three years, some of which depicted the girls performing sexually explicit acts.

The court heard Davies would request the photos from the mother, and later responded “Now that has made me excited. I’m so lucky.”

The woman’s daughter gave evidence at Davies’ trial, saying she feared she would be kicked out of the front row if she did not comply with her mother’s requests.

“I didn’t want to do the videos and photos but I thought that was the only way I would become a professional dancer,” she said.

The victim also testified at the Royal Commission into Child Abuse in 2017.
