A seven-storey apartment block on a busy Sydney highway could become even bigger after a revised development application proposed additional units.

An amended proposal for the $12.2m Place Studio development on the Princes Hwy in Rockdale proposes increasing the number of apartments from 39 to 47 but adding just two extra parking spots.

The apartment block originally received approval for 39 apartments, two commercial tenancies and four levels of basement parking in March 2018.

“However, arising from further design development … it was realised that a number of refinements could be made to the approved development in order to reduce the extent of excavation … and improve residential amenity,” the applicant wrote.

“As a result of the optimisation of the approved scheme, the development will be more

environmentally and socially sustainable.”

The proposed layout includes a studio apartment, 20 one-bedroom apartments, 23 two-bedroom apartments and three three-bedroom apartments.

Plans for two-storey apartments on the upper levels were also removed in the updated application.
