A man allegedly posed as a fake television executive to try and meet a teenage girl, and then called her a “network slut”, threatening to post her phone number on a sugar daddy dating site when her parents got involved.

Gerard Vamadevan, 51, allegedly called the 17-year-old and her family 300 times in three days after her parents grew suspicious of his alleged offer to make her a small screen star.

Police facts allege Vamadevan approached the girl, where she was working, at a Cronulla fast food outlet on March 31 and took her phone number before adding her on Snapchat.

He spent his 51st birthday in the cells at Sutherland Local Court after being arrested at Taren Point yesterday and charged.

“Gerry messaged the victim that they should meet up for a coffee at either Sylvania or Hurstville … the victim has stated she would like to bring along her parents, and at this time the tone of the messages has changed,” the police facts alleged.

“Gerry stated he was going to hand over her details to network executives to get a camera crew in front of her and she would soon become a network slut.”

Vamadevan then allegedly called the victim a “slut”, stating he was “going to place her number on a sugar daddy dating website” and stating “open up ya legs slut”.

When the victim’s brother and father came to her aid, they were allegedly inundated with hundreds of calls and some explicit voicemails spoken by a male voice within less than two hours.

Police prosecutor Andrea Rodriguez said it was “sheer coincidence” officers apprehended the Carss Park man after he allegedly evaded several police attempts to discuss the alleged incident.

“We have a young person that has been targeted, approached, and she has been deceived to obtain her phone number,” Ms Rodriguez told the court.

“When the victim told him that she wished her parents to be involved, the sinister intention can be read from him trying to persuade her to meet in the absence of her parents.”

Vamadevan told Magistrate Peter Bugden he had attempted to contact St George police about the matter but was unable to produce evidence and was refused bail.

He will next face court on September 17.
