NSW State Election 2019: Labor vs Liberal | Guide to party policies and leaders

A tight contest for Oatley may come down to the wire as voters from Beverly Hills to Blakehurst in the historical swinging seat take to the polls this weekend.

Sitting Oatley state Liberal MP Mark Coure will take on four other candidates at this Saturday’s NSW State Election.

MARK COURE – LIBERAL

Sitting MP Mark Coure has lived in Oatley since long before he was a 12-year-old cricketer petitioning for new nets at Renown Park. He and his wife have a four-year-old son Jamie, to whom he has passed on his love of seafood.

His fight for new cricket nets showed Mr Coure the power of supporting something you believe in for the community’s benefit.

He joined the Liberal Party of NSW when he turned 16 to make a difference in his community, which he has continued to do right until today as the local member.

His top priorities are health, with an investment of $700 million in St George Hospital since 2011, fighting overdevelopment and providing better services and commuter car parks on the T4 and T8 train lines.

LUCY MANNERING – LABOR

Ms Mannering said she would defend local health services from government cuts, push for increased funding for local schools and TAFE, stop overdevelopment in the local community and work with local business and government to create more local jobs.

Ms Mannering said Labor would also deliver for local families by cracking down on crime, upgrading local roads and improving public transport.

GIANLUCA DRAGONE - GREENS

Greens candidate Gianluca Dragone is a third generation St George resident who is currently studying social and political sciences at UTS while working at a grocery store. His experiences have informed him about the growing costs of living and the need for stronger rights for workers.

Mr Dragone said people in NSW were facing rising energy prices, the closure of TAFES, overcrowded hospitals and a lack of public infrastructure.

He said the Greens would deliver Oatley a better future by stopping overdevelopment, curbing power prices, funding world-class schools and hospital, taking action on climate change and improving public transport.

MINOR PARTIES

Mark Preston – One Nation

Raphael Bongomin – Shooters, Fishers and Farmers
