Between Bangor and Bundeena and from Sutherland to Scarborough a diverse range of candidates are doing battle for your vote this weekend in the state seat of Heathcote.
Sitting Heathcote state Liberal MP Lee Evans will take on four other candidates at this Saturday’s NSW State Election.
LEE EVANS – LIBERAL
Siting MP Lee Evans was first elected to parliament in 2011 and has since been appointed as the temporary Speaker. Mr Evans has lived in the Heathcote electorate for 56 years, raised his family there and been an active member of many community groups.
Mr Evans is a qualified chef who was the food supply and purchasing manager for the Olympic village at the 2000 Sydney Olympics before he was employed by TAFE NSW as a hospitality and tourism teacher.
His father doorknocked for former Prime Minister Robert Menzies and started the first Liberal Party branch in the Sutherland Shire.
Mr Evans said his priorities were delivering the F6 motorway and Heathcote Rd upgrades, upgrading local train stations and increasing capacity, and assisting community and volunteer groups with vital funding.
MARYANNE STUART – LABOR
Labor candidate Maryanne Stuart is a lifelong Shire resident, active member of her church and a keen participant in her local sports clubs. Ms Stuart grew up in Engadine, attending St John Bosco Primary and St Patrick’s Sutherland. She and her husband and are raising their two children in Woronora Heights.
Ms Stuart also studied at Gymea TAFE and said quality education access was a priority.
Ms Stuart said she would fight for local services after the Liberals slashed funding to TAFE, closed fire stations, cut rail services and blew out hospital waiting times.
MITCHELL SHAKESPEARE - GREENS
Greens candidate Mitchell Shakespeare is a lifelong resident of the Shire. He attended Kareela Public School and Caringbah High School, then gained a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Wollongong.
Mr Shakespeare currently works in insurance and commutes from Kareela to the University of Sydney where he studies economics.
Mr Shakespeare volunteers at a men’s shelter in Sydney and has prioritised sustainable industries, ending corporate influence, taking action on climate change and improving public transport.
