Nicolas Alejandro Ferreyra: Suspended sentence for sending indecent images to teen

A 28-year-old has been sentenced after he sent photos of his ‘bare buttocks’ and part of his genitalia to a girl who said she was just 14-years-old. But little did he know he was actually sending the pictures to detectives.

A man convicted of sending sexually explicit messages to police posing as a 14-year-old girl told investigators he thought the anonymous identity was “role playing” as a child.

The “ashamed” Nicolas Alejandro Ferreyra was handed a suspended 16 month jail term last week after pleading guilty to sending indecent material to a minor.

Agreed facts revealed the highly sexualised content Ferreyra sent to girl’s profile – controlled by Strike Force Trawler detectives – including asking for “full body” nude photos and saying he wished she could help him climax.

Then 28, the Caringbah South man engaged in three conversations with the identity between October 2018 and February 2019, sending two snaps of himself showing his bare buttocks and “part of his penis”.

“Do u like older men?” he asked on October 15.

Police swooped on February 7 last year after a final exchange three days earlier in which he said to the persona, “I think ur hot” and asked “are u still wearing your school uniform”.

From the very first message police sent – “14 f syd” – the identity’s stated age was made clear and repeated throughout the conversations with comments such as: “I look like a 14 year old girl, silly” and “You probs think I’m like a silly 14yo kid”.

But after his arrest Ferreyra admitted that the two met on a popular role playing website, “so obviously you don’t know who you’re talking to”.

The now 30-year-old wore a slick black suit with Gucci laceless shoes for his court date before veteran Judge Deborah Payne on Thursday at Downing Centre District Court.

Parts of psychological reports read out before the court revealed depression had been a “trigger” for Ferreyra’s behaviour, which he had shown “genuine remorse” for.

He was “ashamed” that his actions led to the breakdown of his then relationship, and recognised the impact it could have had on a young person.

Judge Payne told the court she believed Ferreyra had “good prospects of rehabilitation”, stating he was “unlikely” to reoffend.

It was fair to say the offending was “out of character”, Judge Payne said.

Ferreyra was placed on a recognisance order and paid $500 as part of his suspended sentence.

He must be of good behaviour for two years, continue to receive counselling and take any medications prescribed by a doctor.

His sentence expires on May 29, 2021.
