New crime statistics have revealed a horrifying rise in the number of indecent assaults in the past 12 months in one southern Sydney region.
The latest Bureau of Crime Statistics figures reveal the number of indecent assaults in the Sutherland Shire in the past two years has risen by a whopping 33.9 per cent.
In the Shire there were 146 recorded indecent assaults in the year to March 2019, compared to 91 in the year to March 2018.
In better news for the Shire, break and enters from homes, other locations and vehicles dropped by almost 28 per cent on average.
The number of violent offences recorded in the Bayside Council area rose by 8.2 per cent in the two years to March 2019, with non-domestic assaults rising by 12.6 per cent in the same period.
However, the number of sexual assaults in Bayside has dropped by 35.7 per cent in the past two years.
Crime in every category in Georges River remained stable in the two-year period to March 2019.
The most common offence in both Bayside and Georges River was fraud, with 1171 offences and 928 offences occurring respectively in the year to March 2019.
Malicious property damage was the most common offence in the Sutherland Shire, with 1162 offences occurring in the same period.
