About 10.55am on Friday St George police officers were called to George St, Mortdale, after an unknown man – armed with a knife – allegedly threatened a woman and her one-month-old baby before attempting to steal her car.

Police have been told the man grabbed the woman’s keys and entered her Madza station wagon before the woman screamed, alerting nearby witnesses.

In a separate incident, about 11am, the man attempted to break into a home on nearby Rosemount Ave.

He then ran next door, where he had a physical altercation with a man before stealing a black BMW X3.

Officers attached to St George and the Dog Unit established a crime scene and commenced inquires.

The whereabouts of the black BMW X3, with registration DMK 66E, remains unknown.

Police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is believed to be aged in his 20s or 30s, around 180cm to 190cm tall, of medium build. He was seen wearing a blue baseball cap, an orange high visibility vest, grey jumper, dark tracksuit pants, blue/grey shoes and a dark coloured fabric face mask.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
