The notorious Mercedes Mum has scraped five months off her prison sentence for leading police on a hair-raising 232km/h pursuit on a Sydney highway in her signature Mercedes AMG.
Margarita Tomovska, 28, traded Prada for prison greens when the glamorous designer addict was sentenced at Wollongong Local Court on October 30 to a minimum nine-month jail term for the horrifying police pursuit with a three-year-old and a male passenger on board in November 2018.
She wept audibly on the audiovisual link from Emu Plains Correctional Centre at Wollongong District Court as Judge Andrew Haesler knocked back her barrister Derek Druitt’s plea to have her serve the rest of her sentence in home detention.
Judge Haesler reduced the non-parole period from nine months to four months, making her eligible for release on February 16 next year.
“So serious was that crime that I do not believe the community would appreciate or understand such leniency being extended and frankly, it is not deserved,” Judge Haesler said.
“That said the purpose of sentencing can be served by both the non-parole period and the head sentence.”
Judge Haesler upheld the 18-month head sentence and the three-year driving disqualification to commence upon Tomovska’s release from prison, imposed by Magistrate Sharon McGowan.
Tomovska has now spent 22 days behind bars and despite her obvious distress appeared fresh-faced without the inclusion of her usual hair extensions, eyelashes and nails.
Her solicitor Louie Angelovski said he was grateful to the court.
“I’m grateful that His Honour had a look at the matter in detail and took the relevant factors into account,” Mr Angelovski said.
More to come.
