A 27-year-old who allegedly stabbed a man in broad daylight during a brawl on a quiet Sydney street is now behind bars on remand, while a local hairdresser is accused of covering for him.
John Bischof was arrested on Queen Victoria St in Bexley when emergency services raced to the scene of a reported brawl at 1.20pm on Saturday.
St George police officers found a 37-year-old man with stab wounds to his torso, and he was taken to St George Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Tara Wright, 27, was also arrested alongside Bischof at the scene before both were taken to Kogarah police station.
Bischof was charged with wounding someone to cause grievous bodily harm while Wright was charged with concealing a serious offence and breaching her bail after she was charged with assaulting and resisting police during an unrelated incident in March.
Bischof did not apply for bail and it was formally refused at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
The Merrylands man will face Central Local Court again on Tuesday.
Wright was granted bail and must report to Sutherland police every Monday.
She must also remain at her Menai home between 10pm and 6am and is not to contact Bischof.
She will next face Sutherland Local Court on May 21.
