Jamaya Markey pleads guilty to high range drink driving

A former dancer and pilates instructor who pleaded guilty to high range drink driving was “cocky” and “irritable” when she was pulled over by police after dodging a random breath test site.

A former dancer and pilates instructor who pleaded guilty to high range drink driving was “cocky” and “irritable” when she was pulled over by police after dodging a random breath test site.

Jamaya Markey, 21, told officers she took five vodka shots at a party with friends when she was pulled over on Holland St near Cronulla at 9.25pm on October 13, according to police facts.

Markey pleaded guilty to high range drink driving after taking five vodka shots.

“The accused initially failed to stop when directed but stopped a few metres from the site,” the agreed facts stated.

Markey said she had a few drinks at a party and was dropping friends home before she recorded a high-range blood alcohol reading of 0.162.

“The accused informed police she had her first drink at 5pm and finished her last drink at 8.20pm,” the agreed facts stated.

“The driver was observed having a pale face, glazed eyes, sluggish movement, swaying, and (acting) irritable.”

Officers formed the opinion the Cronulla woman was moderately affected by alcohol when she drove that night in rainy conditions.

Markey’s licence was suspended and she will be sentenced at Sutherland Local Court on December 20.

The former dancer is a swimwear and activewear model who works as a dance teacher and a pilates instructor in Caringbah after training at Endeavour College of Natural Health.
