The bus trapped in a sinkhole caused by a burst water main in Sydney’s south has been removed.
With the help of a tow truck and assistance crews, the vehicle was freed and moved about 2pm today.
The rear of the bus became significantly entrenched in the sinkhole at the intersection of the Kingsway and Port Hacking Rd at Caringbah about 11am.
Transport for NSW confirmed five passengers and the driver were on board the bus at the time and were all able to walk off at the front after the incident occurred.
Motorists are still advised to avoid the Kingsway and President Ave in Caringbah as crews work to repair the road.
Vehicles travelling east on President Avenue are using one westbound lane under contra-flow conditions to pass the site, leaving one lane available for westbound traffic.
Westbound motorists on the Kingsway need to continue straight onto President Ave and use Kareena Rd to return to the Kingsway.
Traffic remains heavy in Caringbah and motorists who cannot avoid the area are advised to allow plenty of extra time and follow the directions of traffic crews.
Emergency services and utility crews also remain at the site.
Additionally, Route 968, 969, 970, 971, 973, 978, 985, 986, 988 and 993 buses are delayed up to 15 minutes and are diverting via local streets.
