Police have dropped break and enter charges against a former V8 grid girl and her fiance over the disappearance of a mountain bike, couch cushions and a sewing machine from a neighbour’s southern Sydney storage cage.
Kira Kukovec, 29, and Diego Refojos walked out of Sutherland Local Court on Monday after police withdrew the charges originally laid in February.
Ms Kukovec and Mr Refojos had both pleaded not guilty to aggravated break and enter charges and were to face court in July before their co-accused Mustafa Dagdanasar asserted he was too unwell to attend court.
They waited another six months for their day in court before Dagdanasar again called in sick on Monday and police dropped the charges.
Police will apply to sentence Dagdanasar in his absence as he has now provided medical certificates to excuse him from court on both occasions.
Ms Kukovec had no prior criminal history and had consistently denied any involvement in the alleged break and enter.
Police had alleged “a Trek mountain bike, a helmet, Oakley sunglasses, a sewing machine and cushions” were taken from a female resident’s storage cage at her Caringbah apartment on November 18.
High-end Trek mountain bikes are worth up to $9749.
Dagdanasar will be sentenced for aggravated break and enter in company and larceny relating to the storage cage incident and separate charges of prohibited drug possession, intimidation and riding a bicycle recklessly on December 13.
Court documents note police may issue a warrant if Dagdanasar does not attend court for the third time.
